“Life that was; Life that could be.”
A few weeks ago, I was walking around Chinatown on a solo dolo photo walk. I came across the Bamboo Plaza thinking every store was only closed, because of the state of the pandemic, but came to find every unit empty, or being emptied. It was almost apocalyptic, with the escalators and elevators out of service, rusting in their stale state.
After developing the photos, and looking over them, I felt this sense of despair, but also a sense of hope. It was those feelings that inspired me to bring some life to the empty units; as a representation of life that was once there, and life that could live again post-pandemic.
This is a series of 5 photographic/mixed-media works using both a digital and analog process to bring life and energy and hope into an empty/despaired space.
